   After two college girls were molested outside Wankhede stadium by the mob that was following the cricketers�?? bus on Wednesday afternoon, the girls, who were already in a state of shock, had to deal with the additional trauma of television camera which tried to capture them while they were crying on the road. �??We formed a ring around the girls who had been victimised to shield them from the cameras,�?� says Kanchan Varma, a student of Jai Hind college.
Her classmates Neha Soni and Nupur Desai, who had fallen in the gutter beside the road, were groped by the men who helped them to their feet. Nupur blindly hit out at everyone around her. �??I don�??t even know how many men I hit. But they kept doing these things to me,�?� said Nupur. Neha had it even worse and was taken to a corner of the road and molested by a group of hooligans.
Meanwhile, two other students, Sheetal Pandey and Vikram Kapoor, fell to the ground during the lathi charge. During the mini stampede that occurred, both of them were trampled on. Vikram managed to free himself, picked Sheetal off the ground and began searching for the rest of the girls. He did his best to defend them. However, no one knew where Neha was until after she had been freed of the men who were molesting her.
Once the bus full of cricketers passed by, the mob went with them, leaving the girls behind. Nupur, Neha and another friend found their way into the compound of a Marine Drive building. Luckily, Sheetal and Vikram reached the same building after jumping over the gate. The students were soon shooed out by the watchman. �??The watchman didn�??t give us any shelter despite seeing the girls�?? condition,�?� says Sahil Arora, another friend who rushed to the spot on hearing of the incident.
Caked in mud, the girls were taken to a classmates�?? house on Marine Drive, where they were given clothes to wear and helped home. When TOl informed college principal Kirti Narain about the incident, she was shocked, adding that, in no circumstances could such an act be condoned.
