So what if destiny has not placed your stars in the right places? For a price, you can change your future yourself, in your horoscope that is.
Aspiring politicians who want to impress the party high command are resorting to alter horoscopes to make their prospects look brighter. They pay to get bogus horoscopes made which gives them the ‘Rajyadhikaram guna’ which could impress the party leaders and win them tickets to contest the elections.
Astrologers in the city say they have come across hundreds of such fake horoscopes. Most often the astrologers can find the fake ones, due to the glaring changes made in the horoscopes. "I have seen horoscopes of politicians where it is stated that the father is alive while I know that his father is dead. They change these little details to make their destiny seem brighter. Even a change of birth timings from am to pm could make a world of a difference," says Mr Srinivasa Gargeya, a senior astrologer in the city.
Unsuspecting, prospective brides and grooms need to be wary too. There are a few purohits in the city who alter horoscopes if there is any Nakshatra Dosham. Astrologers say that this practice is unfortunately common and later causes many problems for the couple.
"There are purohits who prepare fake horoscopes, retain both the original and fake horoscopes and try and match both with the brides’ kundli to see which is best and earn money. People should be careful and cross check with a trusted pandit if the horoscope is original and if it is really matching," says Kamalakara Sharma, a city-based astrologer.
Some who are on the wrong side of 30s even change their date of birth or in their horoscope so that they come across as younger and attract better proposals. "This doctoring can change the whole horoscope and sometimes there is also the danger of them not getting married at all, due to some adverse alteration, says Vanaja Rao, MD of Vanaja Rao Quick Marriages.
