An angry India cautioned Pakistan against internationalising the issue of Jammu and Kashmir. Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Navtej Sarna, while condemning statements by Pak Foreign Minister on the J&K violence, urged the neighbouring country to desist from interfering in India's internal matters.
Tensions prevailed in Srinagar after incidents of violence were reported following relaxation of curfew by the Jammu and Kashmir administration.
Forty-two persons were injured, including 23 in police firing at various places in Kashmir, as demonstrations continued across the city
over the economic blockade of the valley by Shri Amarnath Sangharsh Samiti in Jammu.
The J&K DGP said that a total of 23 incidents of violence were reported from across the valley in which scores were injured.
In the Jammu region, shoot-at-sight orders were issued in Kishtwar town, which was rocked by communal clashes in which two persons died.
The Shri Amarnath Sangarsh Samiti, spearheading the ongoing stir in Jammu over the land transfer issue, extended the shutdown in the
entire region till August 20 and announced it would launch a fill-the-jail agitation.
United Nations is monitoring the situation arising out of the violence in Kashmir but does have any "extensive comment" to make at this stage, a spokesman of the world body said.
