From Bandra station to Kalanagar junction, which is about 1.3 km long, was opened to the public. It takes about 20-25 minutes to walk the stretch, which was built by abut 450 workers.
The exit points near Indian Oil building, Nandadeep garden and the extensions near the Kherwadi signal and Bandra terminus station will be complete in three months. The entire skywalk will cost Rs 13.36 crore. The skywalk connects railway foot over bridges to Kalanagar, passing over through Annat Kanekar Marg, DP Road and Nandadeep garden.
It’s a very good step taken by the
Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) to reduce the number of accidents. The pedestrian traffic as well as the vehicular traffic can now move uninterrupted,” said Mayor Shubha Raul at the inauguration function. She said there would be a cap on the number of hawkers and hoardings on the fourmetre wide skywalk.
Some pedestrians were concerned about hawkers. “It’s a good project but the skywalk should be maintained well and the hawkers should be kept away or else they will ruin it,” said Satish Chauhan (32), a businessman from Bandra.
The MMRDA plans to build 49 more skywalks across the city at a cost of Rs 600 crore.
