In this 21st Century we got to hear this which is unbelievable, its in Jhajjar, Haryana where Same Gotra Marriages (same-clan) not permited by village panchyat, due to this tension continued in the area even as the victim (man) attempted suicide because of harassment from the village panchayat.
The angry Jhajjar villagers even beat up cops who tired to intervene, to restore law and order. Journalists were also beaten up by the angry residents, when they were trying to cover the incident.
The village panchayat decided against the same-gotra or same-clan marriage and asked the man and his family to leave the village. Clashes broke out between the villagers and cops, when there were attempts to evict the man and his family forcibly.
The clashes broke out near Dharana village. While the villagers pelted stones and attacked the police with bricks and sticks, the police had to resort to lathi charge and tear gas shells to disperse the mob.
The victim, Ravinder Singh Gehlout (24) married a girl Shilpa Kadyan from Siwah near Panipat town. When his villagers came to know that the girl is from the same Gotra (clan), they called a panchayat, which decided against Ravinder. They asked Ravinder to divorce his wife or face strong action.
The village khap (caste) panchayat is again meeting today at Dharana village to decide the fate of Ravinder and his family. The cops have surrounded the village from all corners and may storm the area, in case of any violence. Section 144 has been imposed in and around the area.
