Bangalore was shocked with six deaths under mysterious circumstances from a single locality.
One whole family and two of its neighbours were wiped out. These deaths have shocked Bangalore, not just for the number but for what might be the motive for the gruesome murders.
"Anand, a bangle trader was misguided by a tantrik or swamiji that he will get a big treasure trove if he sacrifices two married women and two virgin girls," said Shankar Bidari, Commissioner of Police, Bangalore.
Anand, his wife Radhamma, two daughters and two girls from his neighbourhood were found dead in a well in a lonely spot near Amrithahalli on the outskirts of the city. One of the girls happened to be his landlord's 23-year-old daughter.
"I don't know what happened. My wife also doesn't know. I lost my only child," said Narayanappa, the bereaved father.
While the police have launched a hunt for the alleged tantrik, the death of the man himself remains a puzzle.
"If it was true that Anand was sacrificing these people for the sake of a treasure, why did he commit suicide? We are still investigating that," said Assistant Commissioner of Police Ramachandrappa.
Was it a case of human sacrifice in search of a treasure? Or was it yet another suicide pact? Whatever be the truth, six precious lives were lost, for reasons strange to fathom.
