Youngest Indian Premier League IPL franchise owner Preity Zinta

May 07, 2008 12:09:00

Youngest Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise owner Preity Zinta team has turned a corner and is on a winning spree. "I was very disheartened when my team was judged on the basis of the first two matches we played.

We have 14 matches to play and if we have lost the initial two, we have also won the next few. So I guess people should wait for more matches to be played before passing a judgement," says Preity Zinta.

But for a Bollywood actress, isn't her team's box devoid of any stardust? "I am not a lone soldier there cheering for my team," says a defensive Preity Zinta, "We have so many guests but they are in the VIP box and don't make a public appearance. The focus should be on cricket and not on which celebrity is coming to watch the game. It's all about cricket, not who is coming to dance for the team or cheer the team." Now isn't that a radically different approach from what her friend Shah Rukh is taking? Preity has a ready rejoinder, "If the boys don't perform well in the field, what is the point of having a superstar singing the anthem?"

Point taken, Preity Zinta. But what about her Aussie superstars who had to leave IPL midway for a series back home? "It was fantastic to work with Simon Katich, Brett Lee and Kyle Mills. Simon played two games and he was really good in his last one. Brett's going is especially a huge loss for us. I hope they read all these nice things and come back soon!"

Brett returns the compliment. The cricketing star who calls himself a huge fan of Preity says, "I learnt so much about cricket while playing IPL. Hanging out with players whom we generally play against was a great experience. And you will see a lot of me in future, in films too."
